Upper Proxy Falls in the Three Sisters Wilderness Area, in Oregon.
Searching Google for this area is almost useless. Dozens of home-made websites exist detailing the location of this particular attraction. You know what the problem is? The descriptions and locations are all fundamentally off.
I spent the better part of a day looking for this waterfall; certainly, the day wasn't bad -- the whole area is exceptionally beautiful. Particularly once in the "Three Sisters" area -- the landscape transforms from thickly forested, moss-covered, vibrant greens, to craggy basaltic rock. Miles and miles of inhospitable, jagged rocks; it's not hard to imagine an ungodly volcanic eruption being the source of such strange geologic formations.
Drive farther along the road, and sure enough, the Pacific Northwest's propensity toward thick vegetation cannot be denied. Once again, the scene is nothing but green: every shade on the planet, inescapably dense, consuming everything.
One of my last days in the United States before once again departing for the middle east. When looking at the images taken from this area, I can still feel the moisture; the drops of water on my face, the smell of purity and cleanliness. These recollections inspire a melancholic reverie, a sadness, if you will. Craving nothing but beauty and purity, when all I'm surrounded by is filth.
This place looks magical. How you managed to capture this beauty and make it appear timeless is definitely something only a professional photographer can do. I'm at a loss of words sometimes when it comes to these photos 'cause that's just the way the beauty of nature connects with you.. it's beyond words I guess. Excellent work.
You should definitely post it and send me a link. I'd love to see it. Whenever I get back to Oregon, I'm planning to go back, and hopefully hit lower Proxy Falls, too.
I will look for it this weekend. I have so many shots to process it is overwhelming. The lower falls is a must! That is where all the magic is. Let me know when you are headed back. Maybe we can meet up.
First, love the place. I lived in Oregon for a few years and the natural beauty there is amazing. Second, love the capture. I've worked for a while to master that and your shot is amazing. Good luck overseas and come back.
Thanks,
Pete
