If you look hard enough at the rock in the top-right third, squint, and imagine it's something completely different than it is, it will become a fellow reaching high in the sky, gesturing that all is okay.
You truly have a talent for seascapes, my good friend. My last critique was on your piece "Bandon", another excellent seascape. I couldn't pass this one up, however, as it is just as good, and intriguing in other ways.
For one, the vision here is outstanding. It only takes a moment to realize the scene you described, of a fellow gesturing "All Ok!" to the sky's above, hands clasped, thumb outstretched as far as it can go. The processing performed to highlight that single central rock is superb.
The choice of a high-contrast black and white is also excellent. It really helps bring out intriguing details, not only in the thumbs up rock, but also in the flowing sea. The fan shape of the two closer waves is beautiful. The very dark sky offers nice contrast to the brighter rock in the center.
There is only one oddity in this shot, the little streamer coming out of the top of the rock in the background. I am unsure what that is...at first glance it seems like lightning, but further examination begs the question. Jet streamers? Overall, not a big deal, but it sometimes distracts the eye from that central subject of the scene, Thumbs Up Fellow.
Hah. . . I make a pretty comfortable living, but not from my photography. I think I made about $3,000 in print sales, calendars, and magazines last year. I'm planning to become more serious about photography over the next few years, but I don't ever actually expect to "break even" on my investments.
Thanks for the compliments -- very much appreciated.
