Square collection of beautiful photos
CommentsI'd planned to get there pre-sunrise, but I missed the turnoff, and drove almost an hour in the wrong direction looking for it. The hike takes about an hour, depending on how fast you go. I arrived at The Wave at about 9 AM, with plenty of morning light still available -- thus, the rich tones of many of my images. If you go later in the day, the colors aren't nearly as vibrant. Unless, of course, you get the sunset (but it was damn cold when I was there -- started snowing by 2 PM, and I was simply not prepared for that).
November will likely be quite cold. Bring gloves. It's extraordinarily windy through this area. The wind moves huge amounts of sand, so your face and any exposed areas will probably feel raw after the day's over, too. Be prepared to spend several days, as well, trying to get a lottery ticket. They only let 10 people in a day through the lottery, and usually 50-100 people show up. Pickings are slim, but if you come back, they put two numbers in for you, three for the third day, and so forth. -- [link] Southern Utah/Northern Arizona. Some of the world's most astonishing features reside in this area, actually. I'll be uploading more in time of South Coyote Buttes, White Pocket, Zion, and possibly more Moab/Escalante.
