Glacier Point in Yosemite National Park during the summer of 2011. Decent light, despite the absolute absence of any clouds.

Not surprisingly, this is an extremely popular location for photographers. As such, there were perhaps 200 people all posturing for a position to shoot the fading light on Half Dome. All the while, the park ranger spoke of the faded glory of the Firefall, and the scientific phenomena of scattering.

When the park ranger asked, "can anyone tell me why the sky is blue?" Out of the whole mess of people there, it seemed as if I were the only person who knew: Rayleigh Scattering.

200 people? Ouch! (and in reply to a previous comment of yours), that sure does get frustrating when you're trying to work and people keep bothering you/asking about equipment eh? I don't have spectacular gear (it includes a beat-up tripod that has to have one leg shorter than the rest to get the horizon level), and my photos certainly aren't close to yours, but still get my fair share of people who just won't let me "work"

I can't even imagine what you must encounter!

Too bad about not getting the cute girl's info. I once got the info for a cute guy I met in the field but left my sketchbook that contained it on the bus >.< Good luck next time!!!

Yeah, it was pretty irritating. Thankfully, the park ranger didn't seem to care that I'd hopped the fence to get closer to the cliff ledge. The problem with overly photographed areas such as this is that there are dozens of old, has-been/never-was photographers that just want to talk about equipment. I seriously have to field question after question about myself, my setup. . . everything. Though, I did meet a pretty cute girl there, so that was a plus. I fucked up and forgot to get any contact info, though.

yeah, it happens to me as well, people seem to be very confused about ND and GND filters, it's always the first question what these filters are

and of course my camera brand is always a topic, because olympus is not very well known for it's DSLRs among many people. but this should probably happen to you as well, due to your quite unique camera. i'm still confused why you didn't invest the money into that BMW instead

dude, this kind of issue with the cute girl should never happen! i always carry business-cards in my photo-bag to not miss a situation to give the people i meet the chance to check out my works online and contact me. this makes such hectic situations pretty easy
