It's a great scene indeed, and lovely colours, but the edges all seem over-sharp or something - a slight haloing against the sky?

No, I don't think there's a halo (the sun is rising be hind the rock, so I'm pretty sure that's what you're seeing). As far as it being over-sharpened, well, I tend to agree with you. When I get some more time, I'll re-edit, and see if I can get it just right.

What I'm seeing is a thin lighter area surrounding the sharpened edges - it might just be the sharpening method used.
